Yamaha new YSL-881 YSL-882O Xeno Trombones
The Xeno line of trumpets was first introduced by the Yamaha Band & Orchestral Division and has since experienced overwhelming acceptance. With further input from customers, Yamaha has now expanded the line with the YSL-881 and YSL-882O Xeno trombones, debuting at Winter NAMM 2004.
The trombones offer a rich, projecting sound with a solid core and a sound that features a wide spectrum of tone colors, enabling players to create more shadings. Additionally, Xeno trombones offer great flexibility and quick response, and are versatile enough to be used in any musical style. Designed for professionals, college players and advanced high school students, these instruments will replace the YSL-682B. The Xeno trombones were designed with the assistance of Pittsburg Symphony Principal Trombonist Peter Sullivan, Canadian soloist Alain Trudel and German soloist Thomas Horch under the direction of Yamaha custom shop designer Bob Malone. The YSL-881 is a .547 bore straight trombone with an 8 11/16 yellow brass bell. The YSL-882O has an identical bore and bell size, an F attachment and a traditional rotor, and is an open wrap. Both horns are lacquered but will also be available in raw brass or with a gold brass bell (special order).
"The Xeno trombones have been a work in progress over the last several years," states Kurt Witt, Manager, Wind Instruments. "Thanks to people like Bob Malone and our artists, we feel Yamaha now has a world-class orchestral trombone." Both models will be available in March.
